  • Classical Ballet (R.A.D)

Classical Ballet - the oldest form of dance. It is a traditional, formal style of ballet that adheres to classical ballet technique. It is known for its  formal training, rigorous technique (such as pointe work, turnout of the legs, and high extensions), its flowing, precise movements, and its ethereal qualities. Formalised movements and positions of the arms, feet and body are designed to enable the dancer to move with the greatest possible agility, control, speed lightness and grace.

Examples of classic ballets that continue to capture our hearts are Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and a variety of performances that can be seen by the National Ballet Companies worldwide.

Ballet trains the body carefully, developing strength, control, coordination and line.

At MKAD we offer the choice of ballet for enjoyment and also the opportunity to participate in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) exams.  Many of our students have completed the higher grades of Classical Examinations with high distinctions.

  • Modern Jazz (C.S.T.D)

Modern Jazz, in recent years, has become the most popular style of dance - with the help of TV shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, various movies like Step Up , film clips and musical theatre/stage performances.  It incorporates unique moves, elaborate footwork, large leaps, rapid turns and imaginative improvisation to bring an energetic and entertaining experience.

The transformation of jazz dance into dance theatre and the important role of professional techniques and choreography, created "modern jazz dance".

Jazz classes at MKAD develop and strengthen a good jazz technique. Classes  involve a variety of different genres of jazz from Broadway to Hip Hop to allow students the chance to experience all different styles.

  • Tap | Street Tap

Musicality, rhythm, and precision are words used to describe tap dancing.

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Three major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap,Broadway tap and most recently Street Tap. Broadway tap focuses on dance; it is widely performed in musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses on musicality and stage performance.

Street tap has emerged with the help of Musicals such as STOMP and TAP DOGS the movie. A mix of urban hip hop with the essence of tap, street tap brings a funky, raw element to traditional tap dancing. Incorporating turns, slides, percussions and clear, hard hitting tap beats, this style of dance has helped bring tapping back to the younger generation of dancers. Choreographed to the latest hits, or sometimes acapella, street tap is both funky and technical, with freestyle tapping giving the students freedom of expression!

Street Tap is introduced for the Intermediate classes and above, through to the Senior and Advanced students.

  • Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including lyrical, classical ballet and modern jazz. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid movements.

Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work, fluid movements and hard hitting leaps and turns. This genre dance is commonly done in bare feet and can be performed to many different styles of music. There are no limits in Contemporary dance!

Contemporary elements are introduced at the Intermediate level, with the higher grades learning dynamic and emotional choreography.
